It’s crucial to do it right away, immediately. Once you form this habit you’ll never forget anything. The to-do list is your working memory, and you write down things that happen in real time and then periodically review this list and move to calendar, notes, or work on items. I also use it as a reminder to check if someone has done something I delegated. I group them into 3 groups: Top 5, Non-urgent and Ack (Acknowledge - I’m waiting for confirmation that the work is done). The principle of collection applies here: I write so I don’t have to remember.
