Remote meetings

Key Insight

● Remote meetings - Even if it seems obvious I often see people in online meetings who behave unprofessionally. How should a remote meeting look? ○ Arrive a few minutes early - We test internet, environment (for noise), and allow Zoom to update (almost always happens at the most important meetings). If you’re in a familiar environment this can be shorter, if you’re in an unfamiliar environment prepare Plan B and come with enough time difference to implement Plan B. If you’re in a hotel it’s probably better to join from your room than from the lobby. If you don’t frequently use the app that will be used in the meeting, be sure to try it about 30 minutes before the meeting to have time to resolve any technical issues (I see this a lot). ■ In case of technical problems you can’t solve, join via phone or through a web browser. ○ Turn on camera - Remote meeting with a turned-off camera is extremely unprofessional, but if it’s truly not possible to find good internet, communicate with other participants. For an unappealing background use a fake background. If you have a nice real background it’s better to keep the real background (especially if it’s a beach or a mountain).
