Key Insight
● 10,000 hours! That’s how long it takes to do something well, at least that’s what popular wisdom says, however what it doesn’t tell you is that it’s 10,000 effective hours, which is quite different from any hours. Why are some people more successful than others? Some people can accumulate 10,000 effective hours in 3 years, and some can’t even in 3 whole lifetimes.
● The vast majority of businesses grow exponentially, especially in the early stages, so efficiency (and speed) is actually the difference between life and death. If I work 9 effective hours instead of 3, we go 300% faster.
● We can see where I end up on the graph if I do 6 years’ work in 2. The difference isn’t 3x, but 60x!
● Efficient - I do the job quickly.
● Effective - I do the right job, I achieve the goal, far, far more important.
● Saving 45 seconds a day yields 45 hours after 10 years. If I had built automation that saves 45 seconds 10 years ago, I could now take a week off.
● 10 context switches per day is 36,000 context switches in 10 years.
● The goal is to throw us into 100 different situations again and we will be successful through skill and wisdom, in any field.
● The goal is also to have between 6 and 12 effective hours during the day, and we’ll see why in later lessons of the course.
● The goal is output, not hours. What did we finish for that day that moves us closer to our goal?
● The ultimate goal is to build a system, where things run without us, and our time is free for thinking or new businesses, and to do this in as short a time as possible.
○ Being rich and old is no longer in fashion!
● Research shows that globally a pandemic of inefficiency is arising. People sit at their workplaces 40-70 hours a week, and actually don’t finish anything useful.
● If we do the same as 99% of people, we can expect the results that 99% of people have.
● Execution is 99%. Ideas are cheap, and there are as many as you want. What separates the successful from the unsuccessful is execution, and this course will teach you just that.
● What problems do the rich have? What’s the use of being rich if we are: Sick? Lonely? Fat? Unhappy? There are many such people. No matter how much money you have, you cannot buy psychophysical health, relationships with people, or inner happiness. Many things we can delegate, but some we cannot. Even if we become very rich, we will still have to do some things ourselves, so it’s best to do them in the most effective way possible. The skill of effectiveness is important at every stage of life and career!
