The platform demonstrated revolutionary capabilities by creating original content, rather than merely regurgitating information. Examples included explaining Karl Marx's theory as Taylor Swift song lyrics, composing a job cover letter in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet, or explaining VCR removal in the style of the King James Bible. This innovative capacity and speed were likened to 'sorcery' and compared to the launch of the first iPhone, the Netscape IPO for generative AI, the advent of the railroad, and even a 'Cambrian explosion' in biology. ChatGPT made AI, previously a background process like Google Translate or spam filters, a directly interactive service, fundamentally changing public engagement with the technology.
